Kittrell Industrial & Supply

Posted June 7, 2019

Petal, Mississippi

With the determined dream of creating his special family-owned customer-friendly hardware and industrial supply store, David Kittrell knocked on doors of familiar lenders …getting no response – not even a “no” ! After waiting almost 2 months without an answer, a friend sent him to JCJC SBDC Counselor Gary Suddith for help in professionally packaging his Business Plan and Loan Proposal. Gary immediately stacked the proof of concept homework on David – then they created his master plan, together. After a few pitches, his initial loan was approved by with Magnolia Bank with help from SMPPD, thanks to Gary’s continued inquiries such as “Any questions? Then, why are you NOT approving this solid loan package for this solid plan?” Then, Kittrell Industrial Supply Company became a reality in early 2014. In just over 3 years, this enterprise has grown to a now-forecast annual sales volume of almost 1 million dollars, with a sharp eye toward a growing profit margin, as well. David’s business has surged annually at admirable percentages, with this year’s report garnering a 39.55 % maintain margin in this aggressively competitive hardware market. His secret of success is providing service and product selection unavailable elsewhere in his market, and making  himself valuable to his key clients , such as Hattiesburg Tank, Mar-Jac Poultry and Chain Electric Fleet … but also to the neighborhood bolt-buyer who stops by his well-stocked 2700 square foot storefront.
David initially simply wanted the opportunity to open and develop his dream of a constantly service-driven hardware and industrial supply store - the type that companies can depend on to stock, sell and deliver unusual, niche products. Counselor Suddith helped set the stage to make that dream a reality, and Counselor Mitchell was recently referred by the now-retired former JCJC Counselor to help David with fine-tuning elements of his profit margins, and to reduce his taxation exposure. In all stages of this company’s creation and growth, the client has been able to rely on the professional assistance of the MS SBDC.
The Client’s initial loans were approved with the help of the JCJC SBDC almost 4 years ago – and the Client’s financials and exposure elements have been reviewed and analyzed in 2017 by the current
USM SBDC Counselor. David still refers questions to the USM SBDC Counselor, and Counselor Mitchell keeps David well informed of resource and developmental articles and events for his business.
David achieved his initial loan package for his business from the JCJC SBDC Counselor, and still has access to and contact with cash flow/ accounting assistance from the USM SBDC. David and his business have an ongoing growth relationship with the USM SBDC.
